Sport Management 195: Grube

Course guide for SM 195 with Dr. AJ Grube.

Session 2 Workday

While working on your poster during our workday on November 4th, consider:

  • What content from your newspaper media project do you think is important to add to your poster?
  • What data visualizations do you want to include?
  • What images other than data visualizations do you want to include?
  • How do you want to lay out your content?

Poster Template

Use the template linked below for your poster. This template is already sized to the appropriate dimensions (36"x24"). Follow the font sizes shown in the template. All elements (e.g., box size and placement, color palette, font selection, image placement) can be modified. This template is just a starting point - customize it to your liking!

Design Basics

  • Make it easy to follow - place content in a logical order
  • When it comes to content, less is more
    • Build in plenty of white space (i.e., space without content)
    • Break up text with bulleted lists, separate paragraphs, etc.
  • Keep contrast between text and background high
  • Use a curated color palette with one to two main colors, three to five accent colors
  • Use your color palette consistently
  • Create a font size hierarchy and use it consistently
  • Consider pairing two fonts for visual appeal (If you do so, use them consistently!)
  • For generic photos, use a source like Pixabay or Pexels instead of Google Images
  • Label all elements on charts and graphs

Poster Printing

Sarah and Scottie will pull your final poster from Canvas after you've submitted it on 11/18 and will coordinate poster printing. Make sure that your poster is sized correctly to 36"x24" before submitting!

During the week of 12/1-12/5, you will need to go to the library to pay for poster printing. The cost for a 36"x24" poster is $9.

Sarah and Scottie will deliver all posters to Dr. Grube, and she will bring them to the final poster session on 12/11.
