Standards, Codes, Patents, & Trademarks: Citing Standards and Patents

Depending on the citation style you use, there may or may not be guidance on how to cite standards.  If your citation style does not have specific guidance for how to cite standards, it is probably best to cite the standard as if it were a book.  Two key things to remember:  1.  The main reason to cite something is so that someone else can find it. Does your citation contain complete information?  2.  Consistency is important.  If your style guide does not provide guidance and you must treat it as a book, make sure you treat each standard the same.
