Use these terms to improve your searches of the library's collections.
Be Brief
Start with 1 or 2 terms when searching the catalog. A sentence or long phrase will likely produce no results.
Think Broad or Narrow
If you are finding little to no results, or too many general results, you may have to broaden or narrow your search concepts. Example: "western north carolina and parks management" to "north carolina and parks" or vice versa.
Look for Subject Terms
If you find a book that seems promising, see what terms are listed in the Topical Subject field (bottom of the item record.) You can use these terms to improve your keyword search or click the link directly to see what items are grouped under that term.
Use Synonyms
Think of different ways to phrase your terms. A thesaurus or subject terms can help with this.
Skim Book Summary and Table of Contents
Even if an entire book isn't useful for your research, you may be able to use one chapter. Click on the title in your search results to get the detailed book info.
