Scholarly articles are the bread and butter of a lot of the research you will be asked to do as a student at WCU. They are not inherently better than any other genre of writing, but they do have a specific purpose and unique production/publication process that results in an end product that looks much different from other writing with which you may be familiar.

If you find an article that is perfect for your research, there's a good chance that the author or authors of that article have cited works that will also be beneficial to your research. Look through the references; if you see an article or book that looks promising, search the library catalog for the journal title or book title. Journal and book titles are typically in italics in a citation.
