Coming Soon: A New Library Catalog System!

We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a next-generation library services platform, which goes live July 16, 2025!

What This Means for You

The new system will replace the current Library Catalog, OneSearch, and our library circulation, acquisitions, and cataloging management system.

This is part of a larger two-year project to implement the same platform across twelve institutions in the UNC System, including Appalachian State University, UNC Asheville, UNC Charlotte, Fayetteville State University, NC Central University, NC State University, NC A&T, UNC Pembroke, UNC School of the Arts, UNC Wilmington, and Winston-Salem State University. After WCU goes live, we will begin connecting systems with all partners.

Saved Links and Lists

If you copied and pasted a "Permanent Link" (the URL contains https://wncln.wncln.org) to a syllabus, Canvas page, or other document, the links will disappear. When the new system goes live, you can create lists for yourself or a specific course. Contact your librarian if you need assistance.

If you have saved lists in your Library Account, use the Export function to save, email, or send to a citation management tool such as Pro-Cite or End-Note.

No More "Classic Catalog"

The Library Catalog (the "Books" link on the library's website) will be fully integrated into a single system. You will still have the option to choose the "Library Catalog" in your search or to conduct an advanced search of the Library Catalog. You can limit your search by location and resource type or browse by subject.

Benefits of the New System

  • Find books, articles, eBooks, streaming films, and other resources in a modern discovery system that integrates the Library Catalog and online research databases.
  • View and request items from other universities in the UNC System.
  • Enjoy more seamless walk-in borrowing privileges at other participating libraries.
  • Use a mobile app for self-checkout of materials, plus other enhancements.
  • Faculty can more easily create reading lists of library resources for their online courses via Canvas.

The network will streamline resource sharing, create more opportunities to negotiate group pricing on shared resources and allow more cooperative resource management.
