Research Support for Faculty

Western Carolina University has adopted Ernest Boyer's model research classification. Ernest Boyer’s seminal work, Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professorate, outlines a broadened model of scholarship that “recognizes the full range of faculty talent” (p. xxi). Boyer’s model includes the following classifications:

• Scholarship of Discovery
• Scholarship of Integration
• Scholarship of Application
• Scholarship of Teaching

Check your departmental collegial review document for details, as departments may weigh some Boyer categories over others.
