Essential Chemistry Databases: Find Scholarly Articles

Keyword Strategies

  1. Keywords/phrases only
    See prepositions (from, about, for, of, etc.) or articles (a, an, the), delete them!
  2. Use synonyms or related ideas if your original keywords aren't working.
  3. Try broader or narrower keywords/phrases if your original keywords aren't working.
    Ex. Smoky Mountains -> Southern Appalachians -> Southeast United States
  4. Use subject terms for keyword ideas.
  5. Recognizable concepts go in quotation marks.
    "Krebs cycle"
    Do not put single words in quotes.
  6. Use and/or/not to combine keywords/phrases.
    AND = narrower search
    OR = broader search
    NOT = narrower search
  7. Use the advanced search function.
