Using EndNote Basic: Welcome

Guide to installing, using, and making the most of this citation management software.

Setup

Go to http://www.myendnoteweb.com/ and follow the instructions to create your EndNote Basic account. (You may need to be on campus to initially set up your account.)

If EndNote Basic won’t allow you to create an account, try going in via Web of Science. Choose "EndNote” from the menu at the top of the screen. Then click the link to register.

Download Plug-ins for Browser & Word

EndNote Basic offers a few plug-ins you can install to make your research experience more integrated with EndNote's software. On the EndNote Basic site, under Options, click on the link for Download Installers.

There are three plug-ins (or add-ons) available to EndNote Basic users.

  • Capture Reference Bookmarklet: For those who use a browser other than Firefox you can utilize this simple tool to capture references from databases and around the web.
  • Firefox Capture Extension: For Firefox users you can install this add-on to your bookmarks toolbar that includes a quick link to your Endnote Basic page and a button to capture references.
  • Cite While You Write (CWYW): This plug-in for Word and Open Office connects your EndNote Basic account (and all your references) to Word so you can add in-text citations and create footnotes and bibliographies without leaving your document.
