Streaming Video at Hunter Library

Linking & Embedding Streaming Video

You've found the film you need in the library catalog or you've received a confirmation email that the title you requested is available. How do you link your students directly to the film? What if you want students to stream directly from Canvas?

This section of the guide walks you through where to get links and embed scripts so you can share our streaming video with your students. There are tabs for our two main streaming video vendors: Kanopy and Swank. Each vendor has a different interface so there are screenshots to show you where to find the links you need for each.

If you need help using the links and embed scripts in Canvas you should contact WCU IT Help Desk or the Coulter Faculty Commons for assistance.

When you click on the link in the library catalog record to connect to the film...

...you will see the film as hosted on the Kanopy site and you will see the option to "share" the film directly under the title.

The first is a direct link you can copy and paste wherever you need to share access with your students.

The second is the embed codes for you to embed a copy of the film directly in your course page.

Note: There is also an option (just below the embed script box) to change the size of the frame for the embed script. The default is large (640x390) and you can click on 'options' and use the drop down to change the size before you copy the embed script.

When you click on the link in the library catalog record to connect to the film...

...you will see the film as hosted on the Swank Digital Campus site. You will see two options for linking to the film.

The first is a direct link you can copy and paste wherever you need to share access with your students.

The second is the embed codes for you to embed a copy of the film directly in your course page.

For both options you just need to click on the button and it will copy the link or embed script to your computer's clipboard. You will see a note in the top right corner when the copying is successful.
