The North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (NC AHEC) Program began in 1972 to address national and state concerns with the supply, distribution, and retention of health care professionals. Today, NC AHEC is a network of nine regional AHECs. NC AHEC’s mission is to provide and support educational activities and services with a focus on primary care in rural communities and those with less access to resources to recruit, train, and retain the workforce needed to create a healthy North Carolina.

Located in Asheville, the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) serves North Carolina’s 16 westernmost counties (Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Yancey).

As a practicing health care provider in North Carolina, you can get reasonably priced access to the North Carolina AHEC Digital Library (ADL).

CDP programs provide health care professionals with the training and continuing education they need to meet state licensure and specialty certification and to stay abreast of new research, emerging technologies, and the latest innovations and advancements in their fields.

For a $25 annual fee, you can check out all the print books you like from the Hunter Library collection. You can also come into Hunter Library to use database resources. Off-campus electronic resources are not available to alumni, sadly, due to economic constraints.
